Ramadan in Calais, photography, b/w, 2010.
“Ramadan in Calais” is a series of black and white photographs taken in the so-called “jungle” in Calais/France. In this illegal camp migrants who are stranded at the shores of the channel are waiting for their chance to smuggle themselves into Great Britain. It shows the poor living conditions and the meagre celebrations at the end of Ramadan 2010. The series ends with pictures of a police raid on the next morning in which the makeshift houses and tents were destroyed and the inhabitants temporarily arrested. |
