Lisl Ponger
Lisl Ponger lives and works in Vienna and spent longer times in Mexico and the USA. Her works were exhibited internationally and she received numerous awards for her filmic and photographic work. Travelling, as well as foreignness and home are central motifs in the films of Lisl Ponger. Her perspectives on own and alien depictions of travelling and movement always entail a critical examination of representation and visualisation. This also becomes obvious in her staged photographies that take up cultural artifacts and work on re-contextualisation. |

"Das Südchinesische Meer ist ja fast das ganze Jahr in Bewegung durch den Monsun usw., nur in einem Monat im März bis Anfang April ist es ganz ruhig- man kann das mit einem Spiegel vergleichen, so glatt ist das- daher hatten wir auch keine Schwierigkeiten oder keine Angst bekommen und Seekrankheit war auch ein Fremdwort gewesen- es war fast kein Unterschied zur Binnenschiffahrt.
Wir sind mit ihm gegangen, gefahren mit dem Boot- langsam, langsam, langsam von Zaire über die andere Seite nach Kongo - Brazzaville- die ganze Nacht, 2 und halbe Stunden bis zur Grenze.Und dann ohne Lärm, ohne viel Lärm zu machen, ganz ruhig, langsam. Und dort bin ich ausgestiegen und wir sind im Wald weiter bis in die Stadt." (excerpts from the film)
